Death is a bit bored so goes looking for an apprentice. Mort is a bit of a failure working on his father’s farm so needs a trade. He is a bit surprised when he is hired to work for the grim reaper!

One of my favourite Discworld novels this follows Mort’s adventures as he tries to get to grips with his new role. Meanwhile Death reckons he is due for a break so leaves Mort in charge. Unfortunately things don’t quite go to plan as Mort breaks the rules when he saves someone from certain death. History doesn’t like being changed…
