Just What Kind of Mother Are You?Just What Kind of Mother Are You? by Paula Daly

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a debut novel and it does live up to the hype of not being able to put it down! Its pretty scary reading a book about child abduction based on your doorstep and this one is set in Troutbeck and Windermere which are just up the road from me.

The premis is that Lisa is responsible for her friend’s daughter on the day she goes missing. She is so busy juggling motherhood and the responsibility of running an animal sanctuary that forgets to tell her friend that a sleep over is cancelled. So when news breaks that her daughter’s friend has vanished the day after another 13 year has turned up raped in Bowness everyone blames Lisa…

The story switches between the first person of Lisa as she struggles with her guilt whilst trying to get on with her daily life and a third person account of the female DC Joanne who is assigned to the case. There is a great cast of characters many of whom are not what they seem and the investigations reveal plenty of dirty secrets…. Lots of twists and turns and red herrings along the way.

Will Lucinda be found in time? Who is responsible for these dreadful crimes and will they be caught before any more girls vanish? I couldn’t stop reading until I got right to the end… The book will be published in April so you can find out what happens..
